Grand-Am to Test at IMS

I'm not sure if this is akin to the infamous NASCAR "tire test" in 1993 that opened the door for stock car racing at the Brickyard, but it is certainly pretty interesting.

Daytona Prototypes and Grand Touring cars from the other series that calls Daytona home will take advantage of the Speedway being in road course configuration for 8/30's MotoGP Indianapolis Grand Prix. Unlike that infamous day back in '93, neither side is being coy about this test: this is a feasibility study, through and through.

Several teams from both classes of Grand-Am racing will be involved, representing each car/engine combination that I can think of from that series. Notable in his absence, though, is the winningest person ever to grace the hallowed grounds, Roger Penske. IndyCar owner and dominator of most-things-Grand-Am Chip Ganassi will be there with his Lexus/Riley.

Of course I have an opinion on this, but it's hardly worth it to go over the benefits and drawbacks of Grand-Am over ALMS. After all, the series I love and follow most is a spec series with little technology itself.

Full details on the test HERE.
