And In News That Makes You Say "What?!"...

Rumors abound as to a pending announcement by an established NASCAR team who might put together an entry for the 500-Mile Race. A logical choice would be Robby Gordon's team, since Robby has essentially fallen off the map in NASCAR and is really an open-wheeler at heart.

However, Curt Cavin dropped a bomb in his rather short Q&A today:

"Gossip has everyone from Tony Stewart to Robby Gordon, but my sources say John Andretti with Richard Petty Motorsports."

Wait, what?! Richard Petty Motorsports? Now, it's one thing for established open-wheelers like Tony Stewart or Sam Hornish to try for a ride at Indy, and John Andretti certainly does know the ropes there. But Richard Petty Motorsports is as NASCAR as they come. Petty Enterprises has been there for essentially the entire history of NASCAR, and Lee, Richard, and Kyle are the most successful family in NASCAR (Adam would have certainly added to the legacy if not for his tragic death in New Hampshire).

Needless to say, I won't believe it until I see it. But that's not to say I wouldn't welcome it. Good to see established NASCAR guys making a run at Indy again, instead of the other way around.
